Fahms,

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the corruption and internal theft in Saudi is at least double than in SA. The problem is that all off of us in Saudi BELIEVE it does not happen here. The same with robberies where the UK is the number one in the world, but still we BELIEVE it is safer there than in SA.

Saudi chop off hands for theft, hahaha, the last time this happened was about 4 years ago, the death penalty for drugs, hahaha, drugs are more freely available here than in SA, it was offered to my kids the first week in School, and they are in the British School in Jeddah. Remember the young Saudis got nothing else to make there quite boring live interesting. As part of our company policy we test our employees regular on a random basis, at least 20% of the below 25 employees test positive every time and have to be dismissed and this does not include the figures for "Dagga".

Point blank, yes it is much safer in the streets etc but we and our kids are just as open target to crime as everywhere in the world.

My family did not leave SA because of crime or negative reason, I am here for the money and nothing else.

I may sound harsh, but I am quite frustrated with everyone who does not have a positive word to say about SA, but believe me when they here of anybody who go to SA for some reason the shopping list is out, Ms Balls, Marmite, etc.

May I be privileged to blow out my last breath one day on SOUTH AFRICAN soil.

I support your sentiment Pottie.

Trouble is, most people who complain about SA, haven't much experience outside of SA. Most places in the world have their own problems.  We Saffers, unfortunately tend to talk SA Down more than is due.  It becomes a slippery downward slope after that, and does us little good.

Look at the world cup thats coming up, how many of us Saffers talk it up and create a positive attitude.? The longterm economic benefits can only help us back at home.

Cheers

Actually i have alot of positive things to say about SA..and especially after a vacation in SA in december in made me realise we in Saudi for a purpose..get it done and go home..for me its more than money,  cos the Holy cities are here which makes me very privileged to be here..

Our Country is one of those places where one wishes to go home to. and when i hear of people complaining about life in SA i am first to say either do something about ur situation or be quiet about it. Those people who have too much negative things to say about our government are the ones who are too lazy to lift their bums to vote in the elections!

ANyways i understand where your frustrations lie Pottie i get pretty irritated when people badmouth SA, on the other hand my frustrations lie with people who come to Saudi for whatever reason be it money or career moves its mostly for money..) and are constantly complaining.Im really tired of get togethers or socials which end up being Ranting sessions..Get over it..you in Saudi..the people, cultures, religion, food, and everything else is weird and different, we knew this before we came (IF you did your research properly) Make the best of it. and stop complaining.

Sooooooo maybe we can enjoy Saudi while we are here..Make the best of it..it cannot be our home we will always be foreigners but its our life for now . FYI theres a page on Facebook "Saudi's Little Pleasures"   http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=293601983523&ref=ts
Join it. Be positive and enjoy the experience.!

Cheers :-)

The one thing i cannot understand, is why people who come to Saudi complain about Saudi. Saudi is like this, Saudi is like that...make the best out of where you are. If you cannot bring joy to yourself, how do you expect others too. Also, it is well known, no matter how much ppl get paid, if you dont enjoy it...rather dont do it.
Heres the thing, you signed the contract, agreed to the contract and are happy when u get paid...but yet...ppl always seem to want to bad mouth Saudi. My point is, we all choose to come here.

Pottie...
In Saudi crime is less than South Africa.
Less murders, assault and rape.
I am a Proud South African and I dont get all upset when the truth is being said.

South Africa has her issues...but thats part of the reason why we love it...its home.

I have heard of many cases, when friends have lost keys, wallets, fones...and were always contacted to come and collect it, in Saudi.
Since to date...none of my friends and family has ever got anything back they lost in Cpt.

As for drugs, its found in every country. At least its a bit more difficult to get it here than to get it in Cape Town, and i should know. I am from the cape flats...drugs, firearms and assault is common.

Maybe as Desmond said,
ppl should travel and gain experience. Why not first try travelling in South Africa, and you guys come and visit Manenberg, Bonteheuwel, Hanover Park, Tafelsig in cpt...just to name a few suburbs. I grew up in these places...as for travelling in the evening...good luck. Sitting in a park in the evening without the fear of getting raped or killed...good luck.
A few nice things that gets said to you before u get robbed.
"Jy broetjie, jy het n lekka paar tekkies aan. Trek'it uit!'.
"Kyk hiersa, laat ek jou jacket uittraai, dit lyk as of dit sal pas. Jy maak gou..n man kry koud'.
This way, people can realise that South Africa does have issues...and critizing something does not make you un-Patriotic...just a a fellow South African who is concerned about what is going on in his/her contry.

But that is South Africa, and yet we love it. Guys, dont get over sensitive when people refer to issues in South Africa. It does not always mean that are bad mouthing it. Most People of this website actually love South Africa. They tend to post difference they find.

On a funny note to Pottie..
"Did you know, that all the toilet paper was once stolen from parliament in cpt."
'I saw ppl steal teabags at the office, in cpt, even though they are well paid SAP Consultants'.
Stealing is everywhere. Drugs are everywhere.

As for the British School, it is a well known fact, even amongst the Pakistanis and Indians, that drugs are common there.
Even Sharbatly compound has this issue.

Sharkie..what i was trying to say was...we are all different...different backgrounds...different in alles, including experiences.
Its true..i met some South Africans that make a person go crazy with their complaints about South Africa...also true i have met some who just wanna complain about Saudi.  Then there are those who just complain.

I have been to Durban, a long while back. still prefer cpt. lol. (Probably cos we have more colorful characters...lol)
Another interesting fact about Cpt is that...most ppl will defend Table Mountain to death in cape town...but very few people in Cpt actually went up the mountain.

Durban!!!!  Hot, sticky and sweaty! No rugby team to think of. The nearest thing to Table Mountain is Plattekop in Harrismith - and that's half way to Joeys. Crowded beaches.

And that's the good side.

Give me Hartbeespoort any time. Nothing to worry about on the rugby front. No beaches. No Table Mountain (or apology for such). But what a place. Now if only they could clear up the luminous green water!
